The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple agonizing personal histories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the intro looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the song choice.
The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar composition created by artist the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.
But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
