The ice cream brand's Co-Founder States Unilever Prevented Pro-Palestinian Ice Cream Product
The original creators of the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has claimed that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch of a new Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.
The entrepreneur, who established the business alongside his partner, revealed how he plans to personally create the controversial flavor as part of a personal collection showcasing issues Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly.
Longstanding Conflict Involving Founders versus Parent Company
This latest development intensifies the ongoing tension among the internationally recognized dessert company and Unilever, the British packaged goods giant which acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.
The co-founders have claimed how the parent company and their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked their company from "maintaining its activist principles".
The Fruit Sorbet becoming an Emblem for Solidarity
Mr. Cohen revealed via an Instagram video how he's developing an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, asking for consumer ideas regarding naming options and potential ingredients.
âI'm doing what they couldn't,â Mr. Cohen stated from a cooking set. âI'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.â
The watermelon has become an emblem for support for the Palestinian people due to its colors, that match the colors in Palestine's national banner â red, green, black and white.
Historical Social Engagement and Recent Developments
Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in areas under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company transferring their Israel business to a local licensee, thus allowing ongoing distribution in disputed territories.
This upcoming product line will be created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious ice cream brand that was first established in 2016 for endorsing former US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the product "Bernie's Return".
Leadership Shifts and Future Intentions
The founder revealed how he will create additional frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns that the company was prevented from speaking about openly due to Unilever.
This development comes after partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down from the company in September, following many years with the organization, citing worries that its independence had been undermined after Unilever's decision to restrict their advocacy work.
Previously, Mr. Cohen remarked how âMy partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."
âMy conscience compels me to continue to work inside the company to fight for its independence so that it can achieve the social mission, the values that it was founded on and has maintained for over 40 years," he explained to media outlets.
