The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.

Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."

The previous series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.

Fresh Obstacles for The Team

The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."

New Character and Intricate Plot

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.

However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh season."

Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."

"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected plot developments."

Show History

Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Stephen Graham.

Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.

The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the network announced on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
