Supporters Urge Custody of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the actress are calling for that a individual who jumped a fence and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A viral video reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside photographers and charging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a yellow carpet accompanied by supporters.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "released after being detained", though legal records revealed that he was scheduled to attend court on the next day. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a performance. His Instagram profile contains videos of him disrupting other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney performance in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Followers Show Disapproval Over the Star's Past Trauma
Numerous followers criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with PTSD after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented another response on Instagram.
Several attendees also faulted guards at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while some called for online networks to ban Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Many of fans had gathered in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional debut in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be premiered on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the popular Broadway and West End show Wicked, which centers on the unlikely friendship between two very different characters.
The show itself is a adaptation of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of last year in the UK, and scored ten Academy Award nods, winning several for excellent wardrobe and production design.
