Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
