Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.
Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.
“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”
Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he is reported as critical but stable.
“Still unsure,” the coach said. “But I will say this, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”
New York police released security footage Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt were reported.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.
“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”
Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.
He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was expected to be a key part of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on August 2 and had to be helped off.
Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while working his way back.
“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
